School excess levies
I wrote a story exploring excess school levies in West Virginia. Mountaineers regularly vote on these property taxes that provide extra money for public education. Sometimes, these levies fail to pass, and counties lose this additional money.
Counties without these levies tend to spend the least per student. Their students are also less likely to earn proficient scores on statewide reading assessments.
